HEADstrong to Fund an Innovative Transportation Project

(Holmes, PA) – This year, the HEADstrong Foundation™ is planning the launch a brand new transportation project called Nick’s Lifts. Nick’s Lift’s is intended to offset the expense incurred by both patients getting to and from treatment. For HEADstrong, patients’ opinions are always valued. HEADstrong brainstorms new ideas with patients, families, and survivors, in effort to make their lives easier. When HEADstrong discovered that transportation was adding more stress to patients and their families, they went to work to find a solution. In turn, the idea of the transportation project was developed.

HEADstrong Welcoming Patients Home With New Groceries Program

(Holmes, PA) – This week, the HEADstrong Foundation™ announced plans to introduce a new program which will be focused on providing complimentary groceries for patients being discharged from lengthy inpatient cancer treatment called Groceries 2 Home (G2H). Upon learning of their discharge, HEADstrong will provide patients with a voucher which can be used to order groceries online with deliveries coordinated upon the patient’s arrival home. G2H is just another way that HEADstrong is making a difference, providing support and helping families to sustain normalcy during their cancer journey.

September 11, 2014 my husband and I took our 14 month old Halston to the emergency room at Evans Army Hospital on Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. He had been running a fever off & on, which we related to teething. After blood work, the doctor told us he believed he had Leukemia or Lymphoma. we were transfered to Children’s Hospital of Colorado bright and early that morning. Halston was later diagnosed with AML M7 Leukemia.

I’ve been an athlete my whole life. I played three sports as a kid, attended college on a soccer scholarship, and hung on the fringe of a pro career but never quite broke through. I grew up healthy and happy and remained that way as an adult. In the mid 1980s I discovered the world of multisport racing and was instantly hooked. My life got even better as a result of racing and the connections I made in the multisport community.

My story started in June of 2014 when I felt I had a case of the flu. After seeing my family doctor and having blood work, they told me to go to the ER immediately. I was told there that I had leukemia and they could not treat me at Lehigh Valley Hospital and I would have to be transferred to U of Penn or Hershey. I chose Penn and think that they saved my life several times over the past 11 months. I had acute mylogenous leukemia.

My story began in August of 2012… Like many other stories of blood cancers I had no symptoms leading up to the day I realized there was something wrong! I was playing softball when I began to have heart attack like pains in my chest! Upon doing tests doctors were able to identify that i was not having a heart attack but they discovered that I had a large grapefruit sized tumor located in my chest… I was eventually diagnosed on 9/11/12 with a form of B cell Lymphoma.

Stoczko brings to the table a passion for winning and a resume of proven success. She is graduate of North Penn High School as well as University of Delaware where she was a four year starter on defense and captain of the Blue Hens during her senior year. In an effort to empower, inspire, educate and mentor young athletes the HEADstrong Foundation™ is proud to announce the HEADstrong Summer Camp Series 2014. Philadelphia, PA – On Friday March 21st the HEADstrong Foundation™ rolled out the lime green carpet for an unforgettable evening as they presented the 4th Annual Lime Light Gala at the Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A capacity crowd of over 400 guests attended the event to recognize groundbreaking advancements in cancer research, honor inspirational stories of hope, support patients and families, remember those who have lost their battle and celebrate survivors of blood cancers.

University City, PA – 7 years ago a young man facing a terminal diagnosis of Mature B-cell non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma sat in a hospital room on the 6th floor of the Rhoads Pavilion hooked up to a chemo pole and dreamed about how he could change the game for cancer patients and their families. From his hospital bed, Nicholas Colleluori conceptualized the organization now known as the HEADstrong Foundation™. In 2006, during the last days of his life he asked his mother Cheryl to see his vision into fruition. Today, the HEADstrong Foundation has emerged into a national resource committed to empowering patients and their families to live with greater quality of life and a greater sense of hope during their battle with cancer.

Philadelphia, PA – On Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 4PM, the Drexel Dragons will host CAA rivals, the Hofstra Pride, in the Inaugural HEADstrong Hero Bowl, a new collegiate men’s lacrosse event helping to promote blood cancer awareness and advance the mission of the HEADstrong Foundation™. Beginning this year, the HEADstrong Hero Bowl will be held annually between both teams. The event will pay homage to cancer survivors and serve as a tribute to those who have lost their battle against the diseases. BOSTON (January 10, 2014) – Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that it has partnered with the HEADstrong Foundation to help raise awareness about blood cancers to the extended lacrosse community and its fans.

“We are thrilled to partner with the HEADstrong in 2014,” said MLL Commissioner David Gross. “The organization has always been a strong supporter of the MLL and its players and we hope that “Burn Cancer” awareness week and our other initiatives will help raise awareness for all forms of blood cancer.”

Serving Hope, Holiday Feast

Philadelphia, PA – On Sunday, December 22, 2013 the HEADstrong Foundation™ will bring home the holidays to patients and their families receiving inpatient care for blood cancers in the Rhoads Pavilion at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. HEADstrong, alongside of a dedicated group of volunteers, will transform conference rooms into family dining rooms and will serve a holiday feast. They will also provide live entertainment, holiday carolers and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will distribute comfort kits and gifts to all of the patients. This is just one way that the HEADstrong Foundation™ is helping to bring comfort and joy to those affected by blood cancers this holiday season.

Lax Stache Madness Grows $100,000

Holmes, PA – “We did it!” exclaimed Stache Master Ken Clausen as he proudly announced on Thursday that over $100,000 has been raised for Lacrosse Mustache Madness. With less than 24 hours remaining, $101,314 has been raised in total. Over the past six weeks lacrosse players from around the country have been growing mustaches of all shapes, sizes and styles to raise awareness and funds to support the HEADstrong Foundation™.

HEADstrong LC of PA Donates $10K Toward HF Mission

Holmes, PA – On Thursday November 14^th the HEADstrong Lacrosse Club of Pennsylvania proudly presented a check for $10,000 to their parent organization the HEADstrong Foundation™. The contribution to the Foundation comes just weeks prior to the 7^th anniversary of the passing of HF founder Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori. The funds raised will be instrumental in supporting essential programs and services provided by the HEADstrong Foundation™ to improve quality of life for patients and families affected by the disease. A combination of individual fundraising efforts and tryout fees from HLCPA this fall helped contribute to the donation amount.

Holmes, PA – On Saturday, November 15^th, 2013 MMA’s Sammy Oropeza (9-2) will square-off against Chip Moraza-Pollard (7-5) at Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ as part of Bellator 108. While Oropeza is viewing this fight as the opportunity to make his mark on the MMA world, he is also using the fight as an opportunity to make a statement in support of the HEADstrong Foundation™. HEADstrong Foundation™ is a non-profit organization heading efforts to improve the quality of life for those affected by blood cancers and supports those working to eliminate the disease.

Winter Garden, FL – The Gary Bitz Jr. 27 Hour Lax-A-Thon is an event that gives new meaning to the term “Beware of Flying Balls”, partly because this special charity lacrosse event now in its 4th year is held in Gary Bitz’s backyard. And while many players over the years have broken a window or two playing lacrosse in their backyards, the Bitz family has embraced the idea of playing in theirs. Together the Bitz family has created an incredible fundraising event, gathering their community in support of the HEADstrong Foundation helping to raise over $25,000 since its inception 4 years ago.

Hofstra’s Mejia and Albright Honored

Hempstead, NY – On Monday May 6, 2013, members of the Colleluori family were on hand to recognize the recipients of the 2013 Nicholas Colleluori Unsung Hero Award at the Annual Hofstra University Awards Banquet. This year, men’s basketball player Stevie Mejia and women’s lacrosse player Taylor Albright were named recipients of the prestigious award.

The Nick Colleluori Unsung Hero Award was established in 2007 to recognize the accomplishments of a male and female student-athlete who helped their respective teams achieve success in ways that may not always be measured by statistics. The award seeks to acknowledge those student-athlete’s who have not been adequately recognized during their careers, yet have always been exceptional representatives of the Hofstra Athletics Program. The award is named after the former Pride lacrosse player, who waged a courageous 14-month fight against non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, before passing away in November 2006 at age 21.

New Team HEADstrong Illinois

Chicago, IL – The HEADstrong Foundation™ proudly announced this week their expansion into the Midwest with the creation of Team HEADstrong Illinois. An initiative which will be spearheaded by Illinois native Tim Duffy, who has become an ambassador for the organization. Inspired by the story of Founder Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori, Duffy is on a mission to bring further meaning and awareness to lacrosse players and families in the Midwest.

New York Lizards Assisting HEADstrong

Since their inception the Lizards have been committed to service initiatives within the community but this season, with 9 players having formerly played with Nick Colleluori and 5 home games scheduled at Hofstra’s James M. Shuart Stadium where he played collegiately, there is further meaning behind this special season.

Nick Colleluori Named Winner Of CAA Randolph Award

Richmond, VA – Former Hofstra University men’s lacrosse student-athlete Nick Colleluori, who waged a courageous battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma before passing away in 2006, was named one of the recipients of the 2013 John H. Randolph Inspiration Award from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The award will be presented to the Colleluori family at the annual Hofstra Pride Student-Athlete Banquet on Monday, May 6. During that awards ceremony, the Colleluoris will also present the Nick Colleluori Unsung Hero Award to a deserving male and female Hofstra student-athlete. Those awards have been presented annually since 2007.

For Native Americans, lacrosse is more than a sport. The game served as a spiritual guide for tribes. It was a healing game for sick tribe members. It prepared warriors to attack their enemies. And it was lacrosse that prepared Katherine Frega for battle.

HEADstrong Presented Delco Humanitarian Award

Concordville, PA – On the evening of April 18th the HEADstrong Foundation was honored as the recipient of the 2013 Delaware County Hall of Fame Humanitarian Award, at the 74th Annual Sports Dinner at the Concordville Inn. The special event gathered a record breaking crowd to honor the 2013 Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame Inductees. President Cheryl Colleluori received the award on behalf of the HEADstrong Foundation.

HEADstrong’s 1st Quarter Disbursements

Holmes, PA – The HEADstrong Foundation™ is committed to providing resources and assistance to those affected by blood cancer and those working towards eliminating the disease. On Monday April 8th the organization proudly announced a donation of $50,000 to the Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund at the Abramson Cancer Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, the organization reported their first quarter disbursements which assisted over 39 families throughout the country with direct financial assistance.

Inaugural Relentless Cup Assists In Raising $31,000

Folsom, PA – A beautiful spring day was the perfect backdrop for a great day of competition as the HEADstrong Foundation™ presented the Inaugural Relentless Cup on Saturday, April 6th. The Relentless Cup™ is new annual event for the organization with proceeds supporting Nick’s House™, the Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund and HEADstrong Foundation’s service offering. The event featured an interstate youth lacrosse component which featured: Clearview Youth, Huntingtown Youth, Ridley Youth and Rockville Centre Youth Lacrosse; high school games showcasing Ridley versus Avon Grove and was headlined by Hofstra University taking on Saint Joseph’s University for the coveted Relentless Cup. The event gathered over 3,500 spectators and helped HEADstrong to score over $31,000 for their fight against blood cancer.

4th Annual Rivalry Games Scores $40,000

Chester, PA – A beautiful Spring day was the perfect setting for a great day of competition at the HEADstrong Foundation’s 4th Annual Rivalry Games at Widener University this past Saturday, March 30th. The event gathered over 3,000 spectators and helped to generate over $40,000 supporting the HEADstrong Foundation’s fight against blood cancers.
