How HEADstrong Recognizes World Cancer Day

February 4th, 2020 is World Cancer Day. This day, more than ever, we take the time to raise worldwide awareness, improve education, take action and work together to improve lives affected by cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 1.8 million people were diagnosed with some form of cancer in the United States in 2019. When you include the number of people affected by cancer in one form or another, this number nearly triples.

Here at The HEADstrong Foundation, we make it our mission to honor our late founder, Nick Colleluori’s last wish—that others would benefit from his life. During his treatment, Nick took notes on the lack of resources available to patients and their families, including lodging, financial help, medical bills and a slew of other challenges. In our efforts to improve the lives of those affected by cancer, the HEADstrong Foundation is sharing how we (and you!) help people across the country today and every day.

Nick’s House

Every day, families are forced to travel hundreds of miles for treatment in the Greater Philadelphia region. We provide complimentary lodging for these families, offering peer support, emotional support and financial support.

Events, Seminars and Workshops

Not only do we host families traveling to Philadelphia at Nick’s House, we also hold several special events throughout the year to further bring awareness to our fight. The HEADstrong Foundation has held sports clinics, lacrosse games, event nights and workshops to raise money and awareness, develop skills and educate others.

HEAD2head

HEAD2head provides peer support to newly diagnosed patients and survivors. We help connect fighters to reassure them that no one fights alone. HEAD2head was created because our founder, Nick, valued the ability of connection with others that were going through the same thing as himself.

Partnerships

We offer many partnership opportunities through our foundation that directly helps cancer patients and their families. Entertainment

We created HEADtable to bring the elements of a family dinner to patients in hospitals around the Philadelphia area. We serve home-style meals and provide activities to patients and their families during especially hard times throughout the year to bring a few hours of normalcy and fun to their lives.
