HEADstrong Lehigh Valley Coach Mike Bender Drafted By Connecticut Hammerheads

Mike Bender has been a household name in HEADstrong Lacrosse and now he’ll be one in the MLL. Bender has been at the helm of HEADstrong Lehigh Valley for the last 5 years, but this lacrosse season he’ll be suiting up in something other than the lime green. He was selected #32 overall by the Connecticut Hammerheads in the 2020 MLL draft.

It has always been a goal of mine to play at the highest level and will now be able to again in the MLL and against several similar teammates. “ stated Bender. Playing professional lacrosse has always been a goal for Mike and even though he is 5 years removed from his time as a Terp, the end goal of playing professionally was always in the forefront of his mind.

His time at the University of Maryland helped shape him into the player and coach that he is today. Bender has experience playing on the national stage, while at Maryland he appeared in two final fours and one national championship game in 2015. “Having the opportunity to compete for multiple national championships and against the most talented players in the country was truly a rewarding experience that I will always remember. Those experiences, resources and relationships that I created during my time there has impacted my life in a positive way both on and off the field. “ recalled Bender.

The current MLL season is on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Bender and his Hammerhead teammates are optimistic about the future. “It is important that myself and the league take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the player and fans. I am currently maintaining my strength and speed with at home workouts and training sessions. “ Mike said.

Bender has been able to take the skills and lessons he’s learned throughout his lacrosse journey and apply it to the Lehigh Valley team. “It has always been my passion to grow the game in the Lehigh Valley and give back to future players by providing high quality local opportunities. Our program continues to grow and develop, thanks to the commitment of our fantastic staff, players and families.” he said.
