The HEADtable Program provides meals and recreational activities to cancer patients and their families several times throughout the year in Philadelphia area hospitals. Since the inception of this program, we have proudly served over 15,000 patients and families. Our goal for 2023 is to support 1,100 additional patients and families.
A cancer diagnosis is hard enough, but receiving therapies alone in the hospital causes most to feel isolated from the world. Isolation is among the toughest realities of a cancer diagnosis. Patients regularly undergo therapies without the support of their family or loved ones for a variety of reasons including their compromised immune systems, the prohibitive costs of travel for families and the need for partners to continue working. By providing nourishing meals and entertainment, the HEADtable Program ensures patients experience a sense of normalcy, fostering their physical and mental well-being.
HEADtable stems from one of HEADstrong founder, Nicholas Colleluori’s final requests of his family to serve a Thanksgiving feast at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was treated. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday because it’s a time of giving and gathering with family and friends. The program has grown into multiple annual events, including Holiday Dinners, Bingo Nights, Magic Shows and Ice Cream Socials.
