HEADstrong Allocates Funding For Light the Night Sponsorship and National Lymphoma Research

Holmes, PA – The week that Nicholas Colleluori learned that he had non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Eastern Pennsylvania was hosting their annual Light the Night Walk at Penn’s Landing in the city of Philadelphia. Having been diagnosed earlier that week, Nicholas was inspired to become apart of this event.

“From the moment that he was diagnosed, Nicholas was determined to become an advocate for blood cancer. He wanted people to know that if this disease affected him, it could affect anyone, regardless of one’s physical shape or age. I remember Nicholas walking up to the registration table at Light the Night and a representative from LLS asking him who he was walking for. Nick proceeded to tell them of his recent diagnosis. People were in awe of him. Nick joined members of our family along with the nursing staff at the University of Pennsylvania in our first effort against this disease. We vowed we would walk for Nick for the rest of our lives”, says Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom

Since that day the HEADstrong Foundation has developed a close working relationship with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. HEADstrong Foundation’s service portfolio is geared toward improving the quality of life and well-being for patients and families of blood cancer. While working independently to provide these services the HEADstrong Foundation acknowledges that both organizations are working to support patients and families dealing with the same illness and has created a working partnership to share national resources, fund research and build the patient network.

This week the HEADstrong Foundation awarded $25,000 to LLS becoming a Liberty Sponsor of the 2012 Light the Night Campaign. This year the Philadelphia Light The Night Walk will take place on October 27, 2012 and the HEADstrong Foundation will be leading the awareness parade with a huge group of supporters decked out in signature lime green. The walk will be held at the Philadelphia Art Museum at Eakin’s Oval.

“Finding a cure for the disease that took my son away from us is essential. Currently the HEADstrong Foundation is supporting 3 national research studies and we are so proud of the milestones that our network of oncologists and physicians are achieving. We are relentless in our pursuit, but there is still so much we do not know. We believe the HEADstrong Foundation offers a very well rounded service offering which allows us to be on the front lines in the fight against this disease” says Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom

Also this week the HEADstrong Foundation generously contributed an additional $5,000 towards the HEADstrong Grant Agreement which supports the innovative work of Dr. Hua YU at the City of Hope in Duarte, CA. This year the Foundation has contributed over $15,000 towards this research study. Next year the Colleluori family will attend the City of Hope’s Centennial Celebration in Duarte, CA.
