Jill Quinn Thanksgiving Spotlight

In 2016, Jill Quinn’s life changed forever when her son, Jeff, was diagnosed with leukemia and began treatment at The University of Pennsylvania. It was during Jeff’s inpatient treatment that she was first introduced to the HEADstrong Foundation through Cheryl Colleluori, the foundation’s president and a fellow mom who had experienced the heartbreak of a cancer diagnosis of a child.

The connection was immediate. Both mothers understood each other’s experiences and Jill was inspired by the mission of the HEADstrong Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of those affected by cancer. After their conversation, Cheryl handed Jill her business card, which Jill tucked away in her wallet, not knowing how significant that moment would become.

Tragically, just seven months later, Jeff passed away due to complications from chemotherapy. Jill remembered Cheryl and the support offered by HEADstrong. With a desire to honor Jeff’s memory by serving others, she reached out to Cheryl. Jill soon found herself volunteering at Nick’s House Swarthmore, a place dedicated to housing families free of charge while navigating cancer treatment.

Fast forward eight years, Jill, along with her entire family, has transformed that initial volunteerism into a commitment to the HEADstrong Foundation. What began as volunteering at Nick’s House evolved into the establishment of the Jeff Quinn Memorial Fund, which has successfully hosted four golf outings, each raising vital funds and awareness for HEADstrong’s mission.

Jill’s daughter, Hailey, also joined the family’s efforts this year by running the Broad Street Run in honor of her brother, representing Team HEADstrong. All of their participation not only brings attention to the foundation’s incredible work but also helps generate essential resources for families battling cancer.

In addition to these fundraising efforts, Jill and her husband have made it a tradition to serve Thanksgiving dinner each year at the University of Pennsylvania. “It’s rewarding to see the smiling faces of patients and families enjoy a nice turkey dinner while away from home,” Jill reflects. “The same goes for the staff who have to be away from their friends and families on the holiday. It’s one way we can give back in thanks for our blessings.”

The Quinn family’s journey with the HEADstrong Foundation is a testament to the power of community, resilience and hope. They continue to spread awareness and support for those affected by cancer, in honor of Jeff. Together, they exemplify the spirit of HEADstrong—a reminder that even in the face of unimaginable loss, love and compassion can create a lasting impact.

As we approach the holiday season, we invite you to join the Quinn family in making a difference. Consider donating a turkey dinner to families navigating the challenges of cancer treatment. Together, we can help ensure that no one has to face these challenges alone.
