Victory Event Series Rallies Support For HEADstrong at the Cowboy Cup Tournament, Nov 7-8

PLANO, TX – Lacrosse teams from across the south central part of the country will descend on Plano, TX to take part in Victory Event Series’ Cowboy Cup, one of the area’s most highly anticipated tournaments, on November 7-8th at Russell Creek Park. Over the past eight years, Cowboy Cup has evolved into a fall lacrosse staple, boasting an incredible experience combined with strong competition at every level of the game. In 2019, the event featured more than 120 boys and girls lacrosse teams. This year, Victory Event Series is uniting competitors on the field for a greater good.

Victory was inspired to make Cowboy Cup 2020 a platform to support families overcome by cancer after learning of the courageous story of Lilly Camp, a 9-year old hero from nearby Lantana, Texas who is battling Metastatic Retinoblastoma. Lilly resides just 27 miles from Russell Creek Park but is currently more than 1,500 miles away from home as she is receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. While undergoing care in Philadelphia, Lilly and her family are staying at Nick’s House, a guest residence owned and operated by the HEADstrong Foundation for families displaced in pursuit of advanced cancer care. Victory Event Series is based just miles from Nick’s House, in nearby Thornton, PA.

Players, parents, and Texas lacrosse community members can contribute to the Cowboy Cup pledge drive at pledge.headstrong.org/cowboycup2020.

Victory is seeking the opportunity to turn team participation into a mechanism for raising funds to support families like Lilly’s overcome by cancer. Players and their families will be encouraged to integrate their fundraising link into social posts and online communication throughout the weekend. Teams have the ability to document their event experience through photos and videos while encouraging supporters and followers to join them in donating. Victory hopes to raise a considerable amount of money to assist the organization.

“It speaks volumes of Victory Event Series to integrate this charitable component into a marquee event such as the Cowboy Cup. HEADstrong is actively working on behalf of several families from Texas and the support that we receive is only reflected in our commitment to those who and when it is needed most. As a non-profit organization that proudly takes a team approach to serving the needs of families navigating the most harrowing of circumstances, it means the world to have the unyielding support of Victory Event Series alongside lacrosse teams from across the south central region. This is an amazing opportunity for athletes to learn about the cause and have real impact. With so many players and their families making the trek to Plano to be part of this event, we can only hope that they take a moment to be thankful for this opportunity and reflect on the challenges of the Camp family, who have traveled 1,500 miles away from home to pursue advanced cancer care. Thank you for honoring the life and legacy of our Nick and those who benefit from the life he lived,” said Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom.

About HEADstrong Foundation
Over the past 14 years, the HEADstrong Foundation has had the privilege of serving the emotional, financial, logistical and residential needs of those overcome by cancer through operating the HEADstrong Foundation, EIN: 26-0283021, www.HEADstrong.org. Their purpose is to empower families in a time of great despair and vulnerability. Their mission is to improve lives affected by the disease. Their goal is to give families the guidance, resources and confidence necessary to go the distance against their cancer, allowing them to explore every option without the obstacles that often stand in the way. The Colleluori family has walked in the shoes of those they humbly serve and today stand as a patient facing resource helping families to navigate their cancer with normalcy.

The HEADstrong Foundation was conceptualized from a hospital bed by Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori, a 19-year old student-athlete from Hofstra University. He created the organization to serve as the resource that he wished existed for his own family during his fight. As an NCAA student-athlete, his public fight from the sidelines captivated the nation. His dying wish was that others would benefit from the life that he lived and legacy that he empowered his family to move forward in his absence. The HEADstrong Foundation plays a vital role on behalf of families, helping them to navigate cancer with improved quality of life and normalcy. HEADstrong serves as a direct interface between comprehensive cancer centers and their patient population and exists to provide financial, emotional, logistical and residential support to families, thus enabling them to go the distance against their cancer by pursuing advanced care and clinical trials. HEADstrong supports all cancers with a mission that encompasses pediatric though geriatric cases. HEADstrong has aided over 18,000 families and Nick’s House operated in Swarthmore, PA offers more than 2,000 nights of lodging for families displaced in the pursuit of advanced treatment, relieving families of more than $2.5 million annually in lodging related expenses. https://youtu.be/JBZHxE3MQ3A
