HEADstrong is Running aHEAD in Swarthmore
Holmes, PA. – The Swarthmore 5K Run and 1M Walk will take runners on a scenic tour around the borough of Swarthmore, including through the business district and Swarthmore College, and is perfect for all athletes, no matter what level of experience they have with running. Runners are encouraged to form a team, which can include family, friends, and even dogs! Registration begins on June 1 and will be open until the day of the event.
The Swarthmore 5K Run and Walk will serve as a rallying point for the local community to support, encourage, and lift up the families around them in their community who have been affected by cancer.
“We are delighted to welcome supporters of the HEADstrong Foundation to Swarthmore for the Running aHEAD of Cancer 5K Run and Walk,” said Swarthmore Mayor Martin Spiegel. “As the mayor of Swarthmore Borough, I’d like to express the pride we have as a community for this amazing cause and we welcome the event to our town with open arms.”
President of the HEADstrong Foundation and mother to Nick, Cheryl Colleluori, said, “We’re very excited to have the community of Swarthmore host a run for the Running aHEAD of Cancer Series. It’s a really neat way of seeing the community that’s been a huge part of our mission come together to help those affected by cancer.”
Swarthmore is the home of Nick’s House, which provides complimentary lodging for out-of-town patients and their families undergoing any cancer treatments in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Nick’s House was opened in 2011 and provides more than 3,000 complimentary nights of housing for families affected by cancer.
