HEADstrong Foundation Presents $50,000 Towards Research Fund in Founder’s Name
Holmes, PA – At the heart of the HEADstrong mission is generating funds to support research focused on finding a cure for blood cancers. The HEADstrong Foundation is committed to exploring and investing in targeted therapies, treating the patient’s own immune system with minimal side effects. This week, the HEADstrong Foundation proudly presented the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania with a donation of $50,000 supporting the Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund and the efforts of Dr. Stephen J. Schuster.
“Traditional medicine did not work for my son, Nick. While undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma one of his greatest concerns was the side-effects often associated with many therapies and medicines. In his name we strongly support the work being conducted by Dr. Stephen Schuster. Dr. Schuster is internationally respected in the medical community and we are proud to support his hard work and are confident that through his efforts someday there will be a cure for blood cancer.” Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong Foundation President and Nick’s Mom
The HEADstrong Foundation has been committed to supporting innovative research since it’s inception in 2006. Over the last four years the Foundation has made consistent contributions towards the research effort. In 2011, the HEADstrong Foundation introduced the Nicholas E. Colleluori Endowment Fund in memory of its Founder, to support innovative treatments for a cure.
The Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund
The Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund provides financial support to lymphoma research at the Abramson Cancer Center performed by the Director of the Lymphoma Program, Stephen J. Schuster, M.D. The Nicholas Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund plays in integral role in helping Dr, Schuster and his staff, continue their search for treatment for Lymphoma patients, including immunotherapy, the cutting-edge avenue of cancer care. Dr. Schuster’s research includes harnessing one own immune system to fight their disease, which will lead to more effective treatment while being less toxic for the patient.
In addition to the research portfolio being conducted at the Abramson Cancer Center the HEADstrong Foundation supports research being conducted at the City of Hope in Duarte, California and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in White Plains, New York.
