Annual Port Washington HEADstrong Tournament

Holmes, PA- In an effort to raise awareness and support the HEADstrong fight against blood cancer, the Port Washington Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team hosted their annual Port Washington HEADstrong Lacrosse Tournament on March 17, 2012. This event generated over $2500 and seeks to bring the local lacrosse community together to celebrate the game, honor those afflicted by the disease and make a difference. While the event may showcase some great competitive lacrosse, every team had the same opponent that day; blood cancer.

Organizers of this event were Port Washington Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach
Raquel Piraino and Assistant Coach Mary Romano both Hofstra Lacrosse alumni.
Coach Piraino said, “This event is always a great day to bring lacrosse players together for an important cause and honoring a great person, Nick Colleluori. It is a very special day for us and our team. It helps raise awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation. This is the largest girl’s high school pre-season tournament on Long Island. Many of the teams that participate are nationally ranked.”

There were twelve teams representing premier programs from Long Island and New Jersey. The HEADstrong Foundation thanks the following teams who participated.

Port Washington, Garden City, North Shore, Hauppauge, Half Hollow Hills, Smithtown West, Rocky Point, West Babylon, St. Anthony’s, Deer Park, Glen Ridge NJ and Wantagh
