HEADstrong Foundation Announces Hiring Of Ken Clausen As National Director of Attack Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (March 1, 2023) – The HEADstrong Foundation announced today that Ken Clausen has been hired as the National Director of Attack Cancer. In that role, Clausen will oversee the Attack Cancer fundraising campaign as a member of the community engagement department as well as Team Attack Cancer, HEADstrong’s set of experiential teams that participate in events throughout the country.

“I and the entire team at HEADstrong Foundation are excited for the addition of Ken to our community engagement department,” said Jeff Baxter, HEADstrong Vice President of Community Engagement. “He brings a ton of sales and leadership experience to our team. His athletic and coaching background is second to none. The most endearing aspect of Ken is his philanthropic nature. Since attending University of Virginia, Ken has been involved with several initiatives helping others including many with the HEADstrong Foundation. He will be a great guide and mentor to the student-athletes we have participating in the Attack Cancer program.”

A 2010 graduate of the University of Virginia, Clausen was a four-time All-American with the Cavaliers, including three First Team selections. In his senior season, he won the Schmeisser Cup as the top defenseman and was a finalist for the Tewaarton Award. The 5th overall selection in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse draft by the Denver Outlaws, Clausen spent six seasons in the MLL, capturing a title with the Outlaws in 2014.

Clausen is no stranger to the HEADstrong Foundation, as he co-founded the foundation’s largest third-party fundraising campaign, Lacrosse Mustache Madness, in the fall of 2009 while a senior at Virginia. Clausen, who shared a position, a number and a birthday with HEADstrong founder Nicholas Colleuori, wanted to do something to support Nick’s vision while involving his teammates and fellow student-athletes and since its inception, the campaign has raised over two million dollars and involved tens of thousands of collegiate lacrosse players across the country.

In addition to his playing experience, Clausen also has extensive experience on the sidelines as both a high school and professional coach. In seven seasons as a high school defensive coordinator with two teams in Colorado, Clausen captured one state championship and coached numerous All-Conference, All-State and All-American selections. He parlayed that experience into a season as the defensive coordinator with the Denver Outlaws before spending the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator with Atlas LC of the Premier Lacrosse League.

Prior to taking this role, Clausen spent 10 years at Warrior Sports in a variety of sales and marketing roles before transitioning over to Scorebreak, where he spent the last two years on the team solutions team.

“I am so excited to join the HEADstrong team and help continue to grow Nick’s vision to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families,” Clausen said. “For the past 14 years I have been working with HEADstrong to build Lax Stache Madness and over that time I have seen the incredible impact HEADstrong has had and continues to have on families and their communities. I love HEADstrong and cannot wait to get to work in a full-time capacity.”
