The HEADstrong Foundation is pleased to announce the following donations have been made in memory of Nicholas Colleluori as a result of the 3rd Annual Nick Colleluori Lacrosse Classic that was held on October 10th and 11th:

$50,000 to the University of Pennsylvania, Stephen J. Schuster Lymphoma Research Fund. This term research fund supports the lymphoma research currently being conducted by Stephen J. Schuster, M.D. and his team at the Abramson Cancer Center. Dr. Schuster’s current research interests include identifying targeted therapies for small B-cell lymphomas. This immunologic based therapy of lymphomas seeks to develop patient-specific vaccines to use against the patient’s individual tumor. The importance of this research for Penn’s scientific community and beyond cannot be overstated. More importantly, the HEADstrong Lymphoma Research Fund will expedite the flow of individualized treatments from “bench to bedside,” and ideally improve outcomes for lymphoma patients.

25,000 to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk, Taking Steps Towards a Cure. This is our nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Walks take place in communities throughout the United States and Canada, typically in the fall. The HEADstrong Foundation participating in the Philadelphia area walk on Saturday, October 24th 2009. On these special nights, thousands of participants carry illuminated balloons and raise funds for vital, lifesaving research and patient services. Funds raised through Light The Night Walk support the work of hundreds of the world’s best and brightest researchers in their search for better therapies and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

$20,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Research Portfolio. Research sponsored on blood cancers ranges from basic research that utilizes the latest tools of genomics (gene structure and function analysis) to studies that translate basic discoveries to new treatments. These research efforts are driven by LLS’ mission to increase the cure rate of blood cancers. As they enter the new millennium, LLSsponsored scientists are utilizing advanced technologies, such as DNA microarray chips, to diagnose and seek cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. They support outstanding scientists at the forefront of blood cancer research at centers throughout the world through our Career Development Program, Translational Research Program and Specialized Center of Research (SCOR) program.
None of this would be possible without the continued support we receive.

Thank you so much for helping us get a”HEAD” of cancer.
