Kelli Marvel Thanksgiving Spotlight

As Thanksgiving approaches, many reflect on gratitude and family. For Kelli Marvel, this holiday has become a symbol of hope and community support through her involvement with the HEADstrong Foundation.

In 2014, Kelli was preparing for a bone marrow transplant at The University of Pennsylvania. With her husband unable to visit due to his own health issues, her three daughters visited their mom under the hard circumstances. That year, HEADstrong provided a Thanksgiving dinner for families in similar situations, and it made a significant impact. Her daughters were deeply touched by the kindness shown to them and vowed to Kelli, “Next year, when you’re better, we will serve Thanksgiving dinner at Penn.”

True to their word, this family turned their gratitude into action. What started as a promise transformed into a cherished tradition of giving back. The meals served by HEADstrong not only nourish families but also lift their spirits during a difficult time, reminding everyone that they are not alone in their fight against cancer.

As Kelli navigated her diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), she became more involved with the foundation. Now, she participates in the HEADtoHEAD patient program, supporting others who have questions similar to hers. She also distributes comfort kits, serves Thanksgiving dinners, and volunteers at HEADstrong golf outings. Recently, she and her family hosted their fourth annual Cornhole for a Cause fundraiser, further deepening their commitment to helping others.

Their journey is a prime example of the HEADstrong mission to support and uplift families affected by cancer. This family understands the importance of paying it forward and is eager to extend the kindness they received to others facing their own battles.
