Rivals Southern Lehigh and Emmaus To Face-Off Against Cancer on April 27th

CENTER VALLEY, PA – On Thursday, April 27th, Southern Lehigh High School boy’s lacrosse will host Emmaus High School in a regular season game to raise awareness and funds for families affected by cancer.  This is the 4th year that the rivalry has presented the Relentless Hope Cancer Awareness Night and this year the teams will take the field wearing limited edition cancer awareness uniforms.   Annually, each school selects a charitable cause that they would like represent and the students, families and boosters lead a philanthropic effort to raise funds for both organizations leading up to the game.  During half-time of the game both organizations are presented with checks supporting their noble efforts.  This year, Southern Lehigh will be supporting the HEADstrong Foundation (www.HEADstrong.org) and Emmaus will be supporting Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org).  The programs are anticipating a capacity crowd.

“The generosity of the Lehigh Valley has allowed our organization to maximize our impact in the region.  We are currently working with several local families, helping them to navigate their cancer journey with greater clarity and normalcy while assisting them manage the insurmountable costs associated with seeking the best possible care.  Most recently, we welcomed a family from the Lehigh Valley to Nick’s House.  We hope that the Lehigh Valley lacrosse community will rally in the support of the cause once again and we are very humbled to once again have the support of Southern Lehigh athletics.”  Cheryl Colleluori, HF President and Nick’s Mom

HEADstrong Foundation serves as a vital resource to families affected by cancer.  From diagnosis to a hopeful remission, HEADstrong plays a critical role every step of the way.  The organization was conceived by Hofstra lacrosse player Nicholas Colleluori in wake of his terminal diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  Colleluori’s public fight from the sidelines captivated the nation and from his hospital bed he created an organization focused on empowering student-athletes to improve lives affected by the disease.  His vision was simple yet critical; helping real families when they needed it most, providing support so that families may live with a greater dignity and normalcy.  Colleluori fought to improve the inpatient experience, the affordability and accessibility of care and tackled the general concerns facing the patient population.  Understanding the ripple effect and impact that a cancer diagnosis had on a family, Colleluori championed efforts to support caregivers and capital projects to improve accommodations.

HEADstrong invests more than $.90 of every dollar into a service offering 100% committed to improving the quality of life for families affected by cancer.  The organization has assisted more than 14,000 families having allocated more than $10 million in aid.  GO LIME, is a perfect way for athletic programs to get involved this season.
