With the occurrence of blood cancer on the rise in men and women alike as well as a troubling trend in reoccurrence of the disease in young adults, the HEADstrong Foundation has begun to build fundraising campaigns geared towards women’s lacrosse. According to HEADstrong Foundation President Cheryl Colleluori, the demand for women’s product, events and campaigns has never been greater. This new targeted effort to promote awareness is well-timed, as Headstrong, through the generosity of its supporters, has grown to provide financial support and services on a national scale.
This special collection offered by SCOUT by Bungalow is just one of many HEADstrong initiatives to raise funds and promote awareness throughout women’s lacrosse. Over the past year the HEADstrong Foundation has aligned itself with key manufactures in the game to develop and offer a full complement of cause-related products. This combined with HEADstrong’s plan for new competitive women’s teams, new events such as their Nicholas Colleluori Women’s Classic at Hofstra University, and their Tour For A Cure, HEADstrong is poised to bring the message of the Foundation and Nick’s inspirational legacy of action to young female athletes nationwide.
“We are sincerely proud to support HEADstrong and its relentless pursuit to end blood cancer. This cause is close to our hearts as our son Bo, an avid lacrosse player, is an 8-year survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Given our personal connection to the disease, our family involvement in men’s and women’s lacrosse, as well as our interest in putting SCOUT bags in the hands of female athletes all over the country, we have found the perfect partner in HEADstrong and the Colleluori family,” Ben Johns, Co-Owner and President of SCOUT by Bungalow.
“On behalf of the HEADstrong Foundation and the Colleluori family we wish to share our sincere appreciation and applaud SCOUT by Bungalow for believing in our fight. We are proud to announce this new partnership and are excited for the launch of this new collection of sport bags. We would be remiss if we did not thank the players who have been influential and instrumental in the development of our women’s teams, events and new products. Our hope is that young ladies find strength and inspiration in our story and feel inspired to make a difference. Together we need to unite against this disease. The partnership with SCOUT by Bungalow is a first step in the right direction,” Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom.
About the HEADstrong Foundation:
HEADstrong Foundation works to advocate, raise funds for and to support those affected by blood cancer or working to eliminate it. HEADstrong Foundation generates funds for blood cancer research, distributes grants and provides assistance to patients and survivors of blood cancer. In addition, HEADstrong Foundation awards scholarships and grants for students with ambitions of entering the medical field. Founder Nick “Head” Colleluori” attended Hofstra University where he played lacrosse. While at Hofstra Nick was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While sick he began counseling other patients and began laying the framework for what would become the HEADstrong Foundation, in an effort to raise cancer awareness and help others and future patients that found themselves in a similar situation. In August of 2006 he even found the strength to play in one last lacrosse game. Nick passed away on November 28, 2006 at the age of 21. Even though he is gone, his memory and relentless determination lives on through the HEADstrong Foundation.
About SCOUT by Bungalow:
Founded in 2004, SCOUT by Bungalow is an active and casual lifestyle brand inspired by co-owners, Ben and Deb Johns, and the life they’ve created with their family of 4 kids and 4 dogs in the Washington DC neighborhood of Georgetown. Known for its vibrantly colored patterns with hints of irreverence and whimsy, the SCOUT brand of products marries fashion, function and fun, and includes an extensive line-up of durable tote bags, coolers, travel accessories, storage bins and more.
SCOUT is best-known for the tote bag that started it all: THE ORIGINAL DEANO. Made from what Ben and Deb coined ‘SCOUT Cloth’, which is a tarpaulin material, the DEANO has developed a cult following for its lightweight, water resistant, ‘no-maintenance’ sensibility. Since the brand’s inception, ‘SCOUT Cloth’ has been adapted and expanded for use as coolers, storage items and more, resulting in over 400 multipurpose items for every season. SCOUT is sold in over 1200 independent specialty stores nationwide and online at www.bungalowco.com.
SCOUT is headquartered in Georgetown, employs 12 staff and maintains a national showroom in Atlanta, GA.
