PHILADELPHIA —HEADSTRONG FOUNDATION TO SHINE LIMELIGHT ON THREE COURAGEOUS INDIVIDUALS HELPING BATTLE CANCER DURING 10TH ANNUAL BENEFIT GALA AT VIE ON MARCH 20
The HEADstrong Foundation, a Philadelphia-area based non-profit organization established to improve lives affected by cancer, will shine the limelight on three individuals who work (or worked) relentlessly to improve the lives of those affected by cancer in the Greater Philadelphia Region during the 10th annual Lime Light Gala at Vie by Cescaphe in Philadelphia on March 20.
The must-attend evening honors Delaney Unger, Charlotte Grace (and family), and Jacqui Mellot – three individuals who championed HEADstrong’s mission in a variety of ways, and impacted their community by using their platform to bolster awareness, raise funds, or devote their time to assisting the families who need it the most.
“The award recipients at the Gala are the embodiment of what our team works towards each and every day,” remarked Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President & Nick’s Mom. “In their own way, each are fulfilling the mission set out by Nicholas over a decade ago. Delaney is a true warrior, having overcome battles at a young age that many of us will never face. The Radcliffe’s are carrying the Foundation’s torch by engaging their community in remembrance of their daughter, Charley. And Jacqui—Jacqui was Nick’s primary care nurse at UPenn and her skillset is outmatched only by the empathy she shows to patients and families that she continues to work with. Year 10 of the Lime Light Gala is a milestone for the Foundation and toasting “10” keeps Nick’s vision alive as we build community to support the fighters, applaud the survivors, remember the taken and never ever give up hope.”
Delaney Unger (Long Island, NY) will receive the prestigious Nicholas E. Colleluori Award, given to an individual or family that reflects the values of the HEADstrong Founder, Nicholas Colleluori. Unger’s inspiring story exemplifies heroics and perseverance in the fight against cancer. At just twelve years old, Delaney was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that was particularly grievous for one specific reason–Delaney is a passionate dancer. Facing the diagnosis the only way she knows how, with a powerful smile and a positive mindset, Delaney tackled her treatment head on and is currently chasing her dreams once again.
In honor of their daughter Charlotte Grace, the Radcliffe Family (Delaware Valley, PA) will be receiving the HEADstrong Spirit Award which is presented to advocates committed to advancing the HEADstrong Mission in the fight against cancer. BJ (father), Jackie (mother), and Logan (brother) will accept the award in memory of their late daughter, Charlotte Grace who passed away from Medulloblastoma, a malignant form of brain cancer. To commemorate her life, the Radcliffe’s started the Charlotte Grace Fund, a Fighter Fund supporting the HEADstrong Foundation. The main events are an annual 5k road race which takes place in April, and a charity Golf Event during the fall, which brings the local community together to celebrate their daughter’s life and raise funds for future fighters..
Finally, Jacqui Mellot, a nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, will be celebrated as the 2020 HEADstrong Achievement Award recipient for dedication, compassion and excellence in the care of families in the fight against cancer. An oncology nurse for over twenty years, Mellot is now leading the charge in the battle against the disease as a nurse educator, sharing her expertise with the medical staff at UPenn.
The 10th Annual Lime Light Gala begins at 7:00pm and will celebrate stories of hope and remember those who have been lost. The black-tie optional event includes a five-star silent auction, gourmet dinner, a special live performance, and the aforementioned award presentation followed by an evening of dancing to the music of world-class entertainers, Masquerade. The event is held annually to honor the life and legacy of HEADstrong founder Nicholas Colleluori, who succumbed to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006 at the age of 21; before he passed, Colleluori’s dying wish was that others would learn and benefit from his story.
Proceeds from the Lime Light Gala will allow the HEADstrong Foundation to continue its core services including financial, residential, and emotional support to patients and families affected by cancer.
Tickets are $275 each with special pricing for tables of 10. CLICK HERE for event details and to purchase tickets. Tickets are subject to limited availability.
Co-Master of Ceremonies for this year’s Gala will be Thomas Drayton and Karen Hemp of Good Day Philadelphia on Fox 29. The duo each have their significant ties to the area, having grown up in South Jersey. The Good Day Philadelphia co-anchors have acquired several accolades for their reporting over the years and have made stops at notable stations including Fox 5 New York and Fox News International.
